We rant about our society, the youth of America, the politicians...whatever...
What we don't like to do is look at ourselves -- and see the sin that is very real within in us. We like to ignore pride and point at drunkenness...
We are judgmental, envious, and lacking in love. We get angry and forget to hold our tongue. We are impatient, unthankful, and selfish.
So let's stop having double-standards. Let's see sin (in whatever form) for what it truly is ... ugliness, loneliness.... death. And let us extend the same grace to others that we so gladly accept ourselves.

You're quite keen on perception of truth. You merit to think along the lines of a grand rabbi who uttered much the same insight, should you care to, here:

Don't mean to blow my own horn, but I surfed over to here and couldn't help myself.
This is all very true. I've noticed this about us recently as well. We are currently studying Revelation in our Bible Study, and as we go through all the events that are sure to come, I often hear other church members, mumbling (or cheering) that they are glad they won't be here to experience the Tribulation. It got me thinking (and I ended up telling them my thoughts), that it is by the grace of God that the Holy Spirit called out to our hearts that we might be saved. But we should not take it lightly, because we have all sinned and come short of the glory of God. No one is immune to sin, even as saved souls, we all have some wickedness, pridefulness, etc. about us. But it is by grace that we are changed. So instead of cheering, or pointing fingers at sinners, we should be a light to those around us. Encourage them. Pray for them. And lead them to the path of righteousness. :-)
ReplyDeleteSo true. And I'm a REAL pro at deflecting hard questions and awkward topics... part of that is my personality/sin, the other part I blame on having been a counseling major for a while--I learned all the tricks =P
