a cue from nature:
run outside during a thunderstorm
that downpour, that conquered hesitation, that exhilaration
that’s what unlonely is like.

Even though Naples during the summer can be hot, humid and rather unpleasant at times there's one thing that will never cease to amaze me: thunderstorms. Within minutes a huge black cloud will hover over the region and an ominous breeze blows dust and leaf matter across the blaring hot roads. I'm convinced thunderstorms even have a distinct odor that fills the air, it's amazing. The next moment, a torrential downpour begins. Black paved roads begin to steam with relief after absorbing a day's supply of solar heat. The thunder is turbulent and loud; it will rattle a car, even a house. Beautiful flashes of lightening dance across the sky, often seconds before the roar of thunder; it's an awe inspiring moment of silence before the boom.
I love watch a thunderstorm after dark that has formed few miles off the coast. The flashes of lightening fill the entire sky, and the water ensures that the view is completely unobstructed. It is a magnificent sight indeed.
When I was in high school, I used to love the days when I would be at cross country practice and get caught in a thunderstorm. I loved the feeling as the rain soaked my clothes, my shoes, my skin. I was completely content to let the storm encompass me in its greatness.
The Storm is an enchanting, exhilarating experience.
