Planarians

So as I was sitting in class Friday with visions of planarians and other turbellarians dancing through my mind I remembered how in class my prof had mentioned their amazing regenerative characteristics...that means if you cut it in half, it will grown into two animals...and if you only cut the head in half longitudinally it will grow two heads. And he also said they were in the stream by the lake so I decided that would be fantastic fun and I just had to do it. So after class I went to the gym and then set out on my planarian collecting expedition. My friends all decided to be losers and not come but it actually was good...I just spend some time one on one with nature...me and the planarians. I cut out the bottoms of some water bottles of various sizes, slipped on my waterproof boots and began my trek. I started out a bit pansy-ish just dipping the container in after moving some rocks but I had little success. Then I realized that I could get right in the water. It was freezing...literally but I did a pretty good job keeping my mittens from getting wet until the very end when my hands were numb and I didn't notice that I had submerged my entire mitten into the water in my haste. As I was digging under rocks and crevices through the detritus leaves I was becoming increasingly frustrated as I had not found any planarians. After about 40 minutes I finally just decided to get a scoop of water with various creatures (mainly beetles) and bring it back to my room for further investigation. I didn't end up catching any planarians (or if I did they were too small to see) but I did get a ton of beetle friends. Maybe I'll start a arthropod circus. Anyways once the water warms up, I may go back again to try and find some again and I will put up pictures of my crazy two headed friends.

Friday night was beans and cream homework/childhood stories night.
Saturday night was the depressing basketball game and then doughnuts at Tim Hortons.
Sunday...church..and hw...and Superbowl later...then the hour long office episode.
