Materialism

I don't know why, but there's just something about Naples that makes me want to spend money. At Cedarville, I wasn't exposed near as much to advertisements, shopping, television, etc. as I am here and I really think I was changing. When I got here I could only think of 2 things I wanted for Christmas...a travel coffee mug and flannel sheets...but since I've been home, somehow my list has grown. And I know its not stuff I need its just stuff. I feel like such a shopping freak. I've been reading up on a few things on the Internet about materialism and stuff and all that...especially during the Christmas season. From what I've read I don't know if I will "do" presents with my family when (if ) I have one....those can be saved for birthdays or whatever and the focus of Christmas will be on family time. Obviously I have other reasons behind this position that I won't go in to detail with right now... and this isn't like a final decision or anything so don't freak out.
But anyways I was watching this short movie-ish thing today and it really got me thinking about the materialistic nature of our society today. You can watch it at www.storyofstuff.com. It's 20 minutes long but definitely worth the time...I think the best part is around 3/4 of the way so bear with the beginning. Don't write it off within the first few minutes (it definitely may come off as tree hugger-ish at first) because its the big picture with all the individual parts that makes it so impacting.
